Art Divas of Port Credit hosts its Spring Art Show and Auction
in support of the Michaëlle Jean Foundation
Words by Ann Ivy Male
Art Divas is a dynamic group of women who have come together primarily through art and its creation and have felt the importance of giving back to the community via their individual forms of creative expression. This year, the group will dedicate proceeds from the Silent Auction at their Spring Art Show to the Michaëlle Jean Foundation.
This Foundation was created in December 2009 and serves as the legacy project coming out of Madame Jean’s term as the 27th Governor General of Canada. It focuses on “promoting citizen engagement through education, arts and creativity with a special emphasis on underprivileged youth in urban and rural centers as well as Aboriginal communities.” The Foundation also launched a program last fall called Generation Art where it offers young Canadians the opportunity to create artwork depicting the various social issues that concern them. For more information on the Foundation please go to www.JMJF.ca.
The Art Divas Spring Art Show is currently on display at the Unitarian Congregation Hall, 84 South Service Road, Mississauga and will be highlighted with a Reception and Silent Auction of original pieces of artwork from some members of the group on: Friday, April 20, 2012 from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
The Unitarian Congregation Hall has designated a beautiful space to showcase the artwork of their members and local artists. Viewing times for “Art in the Hall” are weekdays 1:00p.m.-4:00p.m and Sundays 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m.
